My 1966 Mustang Convertible

I have owned many cars over the years but I have a particular love for early Mustangs and I decided that I wanted a particular Mustang. My criteria was pretty exact. It had to be a 1966 converible and an original GT and an original deluxe pony interior and it had to have factory air and a power top. It had to have provenance where I could trace it back to the original owner. The exterior colour had to be blue (definately not resale red) with a parchment deluxe interior. I started off looking for original paint but then decided that one repaint was acceptable as long as in the original colour. After a lot of searching I finally found my car in Beaver Crossing, Nebraska.

This is a 1966 convertible which is an original GT with an original deluxe pony interior. It came with factory air, power top and console. It aso came with an AM/FM radio which the second owner traded in the late sixties for an AM and $50. He lived in central Nebraska and there was no FM station within range. I purchased the car 4 years ago and since then I installed the head rests and put in hidden power windows. I left the winder handles in place and put the switches in the bottom of the door pull cups.
The original air conditioning system came with the Tecumsy compressor which was very inefficient. It increased gas consumption and took power from the emgine and contributed to overheating. I put in a small, efficient rotary compressor along with a flex fan.
The car has no paint chips and was painted once, in 1984 by the fellow I purchased it from. He had the paint mixed to the original factory color and at the last moment added a blob of turquoise so the car is light blue with a hint of turquoise. I love the color. The interior is parchment and the seats and carpet were redone in 1984. At the same time he replaced the top and his son rebuilt the motor. It is an A code 289 but has a warm cam and 550 Holley. I would have preferred the original since the motor is a bit lumpy when cold but it sure goes like stink. I put in a moderate shift kit and can chirp the tires at 50 miles per hour - sort of stupid but I get a real kick out of that.
